After visiting Málaga, Granada and Sevilla I was kind of obsessed with the region of Andalusia! That’s why it was pretty clear to me, that my next destination would be Córdoba. It was always my dream to see especially the Mezquita-Catedral. And I am going to be honest with you: I didn’t set very high expectations on Córdoba as I thought that the Mezquita will be pretty much it and I never thought that Sevilla could be beaten. And let me tell you something: if somebody would ask me now “Hey, what’s your favorite Andalusian city?” guess what I would answer? YES, exactly: CÓRDOBA! This city blew me away, especially as I didn’t expect it! All its beautiful patios, the little alleys, the food, the history… I was amazed!
Before I get to the places that you should visit, I wanted to make sure you know that eating SALMOREJO (it is a cold purée made of tomatoes, bread, olive oil and garlic) there is a big must! There is even a lane which is called “Calleja del Salmorejo” (Salmorejo Lane) which already says all 🙂 It is originally from Córdoba and it I had some very nice homemade Salmorejos there which were the best I had so far! And for meat lovers: Flamenquín is also a must which has its roots from there. It consists of slices of jamón serrano wrapped in pieces of pork loin, coated with egg and breadcrumbs and is deep-fried.
Oh, btw, Game of Thrones lovers: Córdoba was also was one the locations of the series *exciting nodding* but we will get to that in a bit.
So, let’s get started with the must see spots in Córdoba!
1. Mezquita-Catedral
Okay, let’s do some brainstorming: What comes first on someone’s mind when you say “Córdoba”? Of course: the world famous Mezquita-Cathedral (Mosque-Cathedral). Not just from the inside spectacular but also from the outside!! Unfortunately you can’t purchase the tickets in advance so you have to buy it there at the counter or at the machine. Maybe it is because of the time I went (it was in spring time) but the queue wasn’t that bad.

The wonderful flower lane with its white houses is so pretty and is a must see place… and on top of that you have the Mezquita-Cathedral as view in the background which is like the cherry on top!

3. Puente Romano
Game of Throne fans: Does Volantis ring a bell? Yes? Then you might recognize the Puente Romano (Roman Bridge). The 250 meter bridge is a total touristic hot spot as you can imagine. The starting point is just in front of the Mezquita.

4. Palacio de Viana
The Palacio de Viana (Palace Viana) is basically a museum. But not just any ordinary one. Because it is a museum for patios (courtyards)! And you might know already how characteristic the patios for Córdoba are. There in total 12 and each of them are unique and super stunning!
